Driver charged after crash near nature center injures 2 Roswell pedestrians

Pay attention to the road. That?€™s the message from a Sandy Springs man after Roswell Police say a driver plowed into him and his wife as they went for a jog a few weeks ago.

A man who police said lost control of his car and caused an accident that injured two pedestrians and his 2-year-old daughter has been charged.

Khianii Cassadean Jackson was arrested Friday on a dozen charges, including distracted driving. Police said Jackson drove on the wrong side of the road and hit a man and his wife while they were out for a run March 20.

Devon Phelps and his wife Jill are still recovering after the wreck, which happened outside the Chattahoochee Nature Center in the 9100 block of Willeo Road in Roswell, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Devon Phelps was thrown several feet away from the site of the accident, police told AJC.com.

Phelps told Channel 2 one person held onto his leg after the accident and “another person had a multi-tool and he was trying to cut some of the brambles and thorns off me because I was cut up, a bunch of shallow cuts everywhere.”

Jackson’s 2-year-old daughter, who was in the back seat of the car, was also taken to a hospital with injuries. Soon after the crash, investigators said they weren’t sure if the girl was properly strapped in.

Both Phelps and his wife were taken to a hospital. He suffered a broken leg, and his wife, who was knocked unconscious, suffered a skull fracture and a liver laceration, Channel 2 reported.

“She's also got a crushed nerve so she can't smile or anything right now,” Phelps said. “That should heal, but they don't know.”

In addition to distracted driving, Jackson is charged with failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of an undivided street, reckless conduct, child or youth restraint not used properly, false statement, willful obstruction of law enforcement officer, giving false information to law enforcement officer, driving while license suspended or revoked, reckless driving and two counts of serious injury by vehicle.

He is being held in the Fulton County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
