A woman was seriously injured when she was struck early Sunday by a hit-and-run driver, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said.

But thanks to the woman’s dog, a passerby stopped and found the injured woman in a ditch, police said Monday.

The woman, whose name was not released, was walking along Ga. 20 near Tower Road between 4:15 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. when she was hit, sending her into a ditch, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators believe the driver who failed to stop was in a blue Nissan Sentra, believed to be a model year between 2003 and 2006. The vehicle in question will now be missing the passenger side mirror, fog light and headlight lens, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
