A Coweta County School System employee is out of a job after allegedly placing a special needs Pre-K student in a restroom with the lights off, closing the door and telling her monsters would get her, district officials said.
Paraprofessional Tyffany Bonilla disciplined the child by putting her in a dark restroom at Welch Elementary School on March 4 and March 7, according to a letter the district sent to parents.
The district’s central office was made aware of the incidents on March 11 and began investigating, school system spokesman Dean Jackson said.
“The treatment of any student in this manner is unacceptable,” the district said in the letter to parents. “The paraprofessional is no longer employed by the school system. The CCSS notified the student’s parents of their investigation. The school system notified the Department of Family and Children Services, and law enforcement is also involved.”
