A DeKalb County police officer was arrested Wednesday, hours after being accused of sexual assault.

The department’s special victims unit received a complaint alleging that Officer Darren Dye-Harriel, a one-year employee, had sexually assaulted a person while on duty, Maj. Steve Fore said.

“I am deeply disturbed by these allegations,” interim Chief James Conroy said. “We will not tolerate any such criminal actions. I am pleased with the swift investigative actions of our detectives, which led to the arrest and charges in the case.”

Dye-Harriel faces charges of aggravated sodomy, kidnapping, making false statements and violation of oath of office. He was booked into the DeKalb County jail, Fore said.

He has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
