DeKalb County police “are trying to confirm” whether a security guard killed a man during a confrontation outside a Decatur area motel Wednesday.

“We’re getting more information that there possibly was security at this location ” Lt. Rod Bryant said. “We’re trying to get in touch with his company, making sure this guy was supposed to be out here and he was indeed working on the clock.”

The shooting happened in the parking lot of the A2B Budget Hotel at 2942 Ember Drive after two people got into a conflict, Bryant said. The victim was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died, Bryant said.

Police arrested the shooter and only one gun was involved, Bryant said.

More than a dozen police cars were at the lot at 7:30 p.m. while investigators canvassed the scene.

“We have detectives talking to witnesses trying to find out exactly happened,” Bryant said.
