Deadly DeKalb home invasion is 3rd violent metro incident this week

DeKalb County police said a man was killed inside his Lithonia home early Friday while his girlfriend and her children were upstairs.

The violent home invasion was at least the third reported to authorities in metro Atlanta this week.

The Lithonia man’s girlfriend said she heard a gunshot and saw two men leaving the house on Fields Drive shortly after midnight, according to Channel 2 Action News. The identities of the slain victim and his girlfriend were not immediately available.

The girlfriend found her boyfriend bleeding, and he died before police arrived.

Neighbors say the man’s family was out in the street after the shooting, crying and screaming for help,

Police believe robbery was the motive.

This was at least the third violent home invasion this week, according to authorities.

Four to five armed robbers barged into a south Fulton County home early Thursday, police said.There were four adults and three children inside the house on Flat Shoals Road when the suspects broke through the back door about 1 a.m. Two of the adults hid with the children upstairs while the other two fought with the intruders, who fired three shots inside the home, according to Channel 2.

Henry County police said homeowners told them that around 4:40 a.m. Wednesday three masked individuals kicked in the back door of their residence on Zachary's Way, forced them into one area of the home and ransacked the place.The suspects fled the home with cellphones, jewelry and some cash, authorities said.
