Atlanta police are investigating the circumstances of a fatal shooting Wednesday morning that blocked traffic on I-85 for more than four hours.

A HERO unit reported an SUV on the side of northbound I-85 near Cleveland Avenue about 9:15 a.m., police spokesman Lukasz Sajdak said. The HERO operator approached the SUV and saw two people who appeared to be injured and also saw a weapon initially in a female’s hand, Sajdak said.

The HERO operator backed away and then saw the male victim shoot himself in the head. The man was Andre Cambrice, 56, of Atlanta, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office said.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s policy is to not name suicide victims, but in this case police have not determined the cause of death.

The woman, who was in the passenger seat, also had been shot in the head, Channel 2 Action News reported. She is being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital. Her name has not been released.

No one has been arrested.

The interstate reopened shortly after 1:30 p.m.
