A Dalton man has been arrested in connection with the Monday death of a 41-year-old woman who was injured over the weekend.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports Dalton native Myrna Rosales was unconscious when David Emmanuel Rivera Zavala, 28, brought her to the Hamilton Medical Center around 1:15 a.m. Saturday.
Zavala allegedly told officials Rosales had fallen down the porch steps outside his home after visiting him on the 1000 block of Classic Chase Drive in Dalton. However, the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office told the Times Free Press that Rosales’ injuries were not consistent with a fall down stairs.
Investigators told the newspaper that Zavala and Rosales had an argument shortly before he brought her to the hospital. Zavala is believed to have fled after dropping the victim off, according to the Times Free Press.
Zavala was arrested in Aurora, Ill., after investigators determined he might be staying with relatives there, according to the newspaper. He is being charged with aggravated battery in connection with the incident.
Rosales’ body will be transferred to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an autopsy.
