A 17-year-old allegedly drove away from troopers at nearly double the speed limit before crashing near an Atlanta school, prompting a brief lockdown Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Xavier Brinson, 17, of Atlanta, is accused of driving 103 mph in his Mercedes Benz SUV on I-20 West near Boulevard, which is a 55 mph zone, Georgia State Patrol said in a news release.

A trooper spotted him around 3:25 p.m. and attempted to pull him over, the release said. However, the SUV exited onto Hill Street and eventually lost control near Kelly Street and Memorial Drive.

The vehicle went onto a sidewalk, busted through a fence and landed on top of two cars parked near Wesley International Academy, police said. This caused the charter school to be placed on lockdown, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Brinson allegedly ran away from the scene but was later caught by two troopers.

He faces seven charges, including fleeing and attempting to elude, hit and run, driving with an instructional permit, provisional or temporary license, interference with government property, driving without insurance, reckless driving and speeding, Fulton County jail records show.

There were four juvenile passengers in Brinson’s vehicle, but they were released to their parents without charges, police said. No one was hurt in the incident.
