Gwinnett County police Thursday said a Dacula man who shot and killed another man in his driveway Wednesday acted in self-defense.

The shooting happened in the 1600 block of Windsong Park Drive near Dacula.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera said detectives have determined that Richard Fawbush and Jack Vawter got into a roadway disagreement with Jesse Campbell, followed Campbell to his home and attempted to assault him in his driveway.

Campbell, 34, of Dacula, told investigators he shot Fawbush when Fawbush attempted to assault him with a homemade weapon, Pihera said.

Fawbush, 24, also of Dacula, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

“At this time, the homicide appears to be self-defense,” Pihera said in an email. “Campbell has not been charged with any criminal act.”

She said Vawter, 24, of Buford, was charged with aggravated assault and taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.
