A Cobb County grand jury this week indicted a veteran soccer coach on 12 counts of sexual exploitation of children.

Michael Joseph Shaner has been held without bond at the Cobb jail since his August arrest, when police said he had several videos of children performing sex acts and 61 pictures of nude children.

Shaner did have a video containing “material depicting a minor and a portion of a minor’s body engaged sexually explicit conduct,” count 1 of the indictment states. He was also indicted on one count of possessing less than an ounce or marijuana.

Shaner’s social media profiles list him as a soccer coach affiliated with the Marietta-based Southern Soccer Academy, a group boasting some 500 youth teams in various age categories. His online posts show he often coached teams of young girls.

Police previously said there was no evidence of inappropriate contact between Shaner and the players he coached.
