Four Cherokee County High School sophomores were arrested and charged with sexual battery against a classmate, the school system said Tuesday.

The boys, whose names were not released, were arrested Monday by the school system’s police department, according to Barbara Jacoby, spokeswoman for the district. Two of the students were also charged with one count of misdemeanor simple battery, she said.

The four are accused of making inappropriate comments and inappropriately touching a classmate in front of other students, Jacoby said. The incidents allegedly happened earlier in the school year, but were not reported by the sophomore girl until Oct. 14, the school system said.

All four boys were disciplined by the school, but those details cannot be released due to federal privacy laws.
