Two men were arrested Thursday after Cherokee County deputies said they spotted them trying to hook an unattended sheriff’s office trailer to their own pickup truck.

Authorities said 29-year-old Jordan Tucker and 35-year-old Jeremy Sisson also had drugs and firearms with them when they were taken into custody, according to Cherokee sheriff’s office spokesman Capt. Jay Baker.

The deputies manage an inmate work detail that was helping with a project near the Cherokee Mills boat ramp on Bells Ferry Road, Baker said. About 11 a.m., the deputies disconnected their vehicle from a trailer used to carry their equipment and left it in the parking lot “in order to access the area they were working,” Baker said.

When they returned, they saw Tucker and Sisson “in the process of attaching their pickup truck to the county trailer.”

Deputies confronted the pair and found methamphetamine and two guns in their truck, Baker said.

Both were taken to the Cherokee County Jail on charges of criminal attempt to commit felony theft, interference with government property and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Only Tucker was charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Investigators added an additional count of crossing the guard line with drugs after more methamphetamine was found on Tucker when he arrived at the jail. Sisson faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Tucker and Sisson remain in the jail on respective bonds of $25,124 and $20,249.
