Three people were seen running from a Gwinnett County hotel early Tuesday morning after a man was found dead inside one of the rooms.

Several guests at the Days Inn on Glenn Club Drive near Stone Mountain called 911 just after midnight when they heard gunfire, according to Gwinnett police. Officers found Ronald Horton Jr., 28, of Snellville, shot dead inside a second-floor hotel room.

Police confirmed they are investigating the death as a homicide.

“The suspects were seen running behind the hotel in the woods,” a police spokesman said in a news release.

For several hours, officers and police dogs combed the area for the three suspects and any evidence they left behind, but the search came up empty. A description of the three suspects was not provided.

Investigators were also expected to collect evidence inside the hotel room.
