As many as five masked men dressed in black are at large following a deadly shooting at a motel near Lilburn, police said.

Gwinnett County police were called to the Home Stay Suites in the 4300 block of U.S. 78 about 4 a.m. after someone reported hearing several shots. Darius Daniels, 28, of Snellville, was found dead in a lower-level motel room, authorities said.

“It is believed that there are four to five suspects,” police spokeswoman Officer Ashley Wilson told AJC.com. “They are described as black males, wearing all black with black masks, possibly all armed.”

It is not known if the men left the motel in a vehicle or ran away.

“Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses from adjacent rooms and the 911 caller,” Wilson said from the scene Wednesday morning.

Police have not said what motivated the shooting.

“There is no further information on suspects or motive at this time,” Sgt. Jake Smith said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

It happened on Stone Mountain Highway Wednesday morning.
