A DeKalb County police officer who fought with a suspect before he was dragged and thrown from a car has been released from the hospital, officials said Wednesday.

Officer Kareem Rhone, 35, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital after pulling over a car during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon along Capistrana Place, DeKalb police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell said.

Rhone, who has been with the department for eight years, “suffered non-life threatening head injuries with contusions to his head,” Campbell said in a statement. “He also had minor scrapes and bruising to his arms and hands.”

Two men and one woman were in the car during the stop, police said.

It is not known what led to the traffic stop, but Campbell said Rhone fought with someone inside the car before he was dragged and thrown from it. Police have not said what caused the fight.

Two people got out of the car and ran. All three suspects were eventually taken into custody, police said.

Their names “will not be released until Officer Rhone is able to participate in a photo line-up,” Campbell said.
