A man riding his bicycle was killed Saturday morning after being struck by an SUV in northern Cherokee County, authorities said.

Deputies were dispatched to the crash on Ga. 5 in Ball Ground about 5:30 a.m., Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Jay Baker said.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined the man was riding south near Commerce Lane before sunrise when he was struck from behind by a Jeep Renegade.

Neither the man killed nor the driver who collided with him has been identified.

As of Saturday afternoon, no charges had been filed in the case. The fatal crash remains under investigation, authorities said.
