An Auburn police corporal has been fired following an arrest by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Cpl. Charles Fitzgerald Hubbard, 51, of Loganville, has been charged with interference with commerce by threats or violence, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Hubbard, who had been with the police department for six years, was arrested Monday at a shopping complex off Chamblee Tucker Road in Atlanta.
“We are disappointed and, frankly, heartbroken to learn that someone who had sworn to serve and protect our community — and who had gained our trust and appreciation — now stands accused of being involved in this alleged crime,” Mayor Linda Blechinger said Wednesday in a statement.
The city is cooperating with federal officials, Blechinger said, but the mayor said she cannot release further details or comment because of the ongoing investigation by the DEA task force.
