Police are searching for a driver they say struck and killed a 49-year-old Atlanta man overnight before leaving the scene.

The man, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as Casey Stroud, was hit by a vehicle in the 3300 block of Empire Boulevard in southwest Atlanta about 2:40 a.m., Atlanta police Sgt. John Chafee said.

Stroud was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the victim had been standing in the middle of the roadway waving a flashlight when a gray vehicle struck him and continued driving south on Empire Boulevard,” Chafee said.

Investigators are working to determine who the driver was. The suspect is believed to be driving a 2001 to 2004 gray Hyundai Sante Fe, which should have front-end damage, possibly a broken windshield and a busted radiator, police said.

Police said to look for a gray Hyundai Sante Fe like the one pictured. This is a generic photo of the vehicle's make and model. It is not a photo of the suspect's vehicle.
