Atlanta police say they have recovered the vehicle that a woman used to take three children Tuesday. And the situation arose because of a change in custody, police said.

Kerry Henderson, 35, is wanted for questioning in the “interference with custody” involving Malachi Choate, 2, Zykerria Stansberry, 2, and Zariha Stansberry, 5 months.

Channel 2 Action News reported Wednesday that Henderson’s Kia Optima, which was pictured in a police alert, has been recovered. Police do not know the current method of transportation for Henderson and the children.

Atlanta police said at a news conference Wednesday that Henderson had been unofficially appointed caregiver to the children. But after a court-ordered custodial turnover to Division of Family and Children Services on Tuesday, Henderson took off with the children.

“I would like to tell her that there are two sides to every story,” Lt. Charles Hampton of Atlanta police said Wednesday. “My biggest concern is to have the kids returned safely.”

Henderson, described as 5-foot, 132 pounds, was last seen with the children Tuesday at Oakland City Park. Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to call 911.
