Two men were arrested Tuesday after Gwinnett County police exchanged gunfire during a home invasion.
About 2:10 a.m., authorities received a call from a home in the 1200 block of Williamsburg Lane in unincorporated Norcross, Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said.
The caller said an unknown number of men entered the house, Pihera said. The caller was hiding in the bathroom with three children and said her husband and another family member were also in the home.
As soon as police entered the home, one officer said someone started shooting at them, Pihera said. One officer returned fire, and the people ran away.
A helicopter and police dogs were used, Pihera said. One person was caught by a police dog, and another person was located by officers. At least one other person involved in the incident is at large.
Javier Gonzalez, 26, of Alpharetta, will be charged with first-degree home invasion, Pihera said. He’s in the Gwinnett County jail.
Lamar Marcel Bowman, 30, of Norcross, will be charged with first-degree home invasion and one count of aggravated asssault, Pihera said. Police think Bowman shot at officers. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center-Lawrenceville for an unrelated medical issue. He will be booked into the Gwinnett County jail when he’s released from the hospital.
“Detectives are working to determine exactly how many other suspects are still unaccounted for and their descriptions,” Pihera said.
The officer who fired his gun is on paid administrative leave as a Gwinnett police team investigates the incident, Pihera said.
