An arrest has been made in the case of an off-duty Atlanta fire captain who was shot during a robbery in Buckhead last month, police said.

Atlanta detectives said 35-year-old Demario Mosely was arrested in Chicago in connection with the Feb. 2 robbery. Mosely, who lives in Chicago, is a felon with 23 arrests, Atlanta police Sgt. John Chafee said.

Police say Mosely has family ties in the Atlanta area. Investigators said he was likely in town with another man from Chicago at the time of the robbery. Detectives are still working to identify the second suspect.

According to police, two men approached Capt. Cecil Level and his fiancee about 2:15 p.m. on Grandview Avenue as the two were getting out of their car.

The men, who were armed, demanded they hand over their belongings, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty previously told AJC.com.

At some point, the men noticed Level’s Atlanta Fire Rescue Department badge, prompting one of them to shoot him in the shoulder area, Daugherty said.

They then took off, one of them in a Ford Explorer and the other on foot. The man who ran away was hit by a car as he left and was possibly injured, police said.

It’s unclear whether the man struck by the car was Mosely or his alleged accomplice.

Mosely will be extradited back to Atlanta, where he faces two counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, records show.
