A Rockdale County teenager allegedly dragged his mother by the hair and tied her up before he and two friends attempted to steal guns, according to police.
The three teenage suspects remained in jail without bond Tuesday on numerous charges, including burglary, false imprisonment, kidnapping, criminal damage to property and obstruction, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office said. The three teens ran away from the home as deputies arrived, prompting a search of the area and a temporary lockdown at an elementary school Friday afternoon.
Deputies were called to a Squire Lane home, near Conyers, around 2 p.m. and found the woman on a bed with her hands and feet tied with purple rope, the incident report states. Regina Coddington told investigators her son had dragged her and tied her up and threatened to kill her if she called police.
“We can do this the hard way or the easy way,” Coddington said her son told her.
In the dining room of the home, deputies found a large steel gun case had been tipped over and beaten with hammers in an attempt to open, but the suspects were not successful, the police report states. A crowbar and drill were also near the safe, along with safety glasses, police said.
A neighbor told deputies he saw Coddington’s son, Joseph Coddington, enter the home after removing a storm window. The 17-year-old then opened the door to let two other teens inside, the neighbor said.
Deputies set up a perimeter in the area around Stanton Road and Goode Road and deployed K-9 dogs to track the suspects, Cpl. Michael Camp said Tuesday.
The first suspect, Quenton Harris, 17, of Conyers, was arrested 2:30 p.m. near Goode Road and Stanton Road behind a house, Camp said.
A 14-year-old female suspect, whose name was not released, was spotted near Goode Road and Stanton Road at around 3:30 p.m. and arrested. Joseph Coddington was arrested around 5 p.m. in the same area, Camp said.
Harris and Coddington were taken to the Rockdale County jail, where they were being held Tuesday. The 14-year-old girl was taken to the Rockdale Youth Detention Center, Camp said.
Honey Creek Elementary was on preventative lockdown, which delayed school letting out, Camp said. The lockdown was lifted within an hour.
