Two community meetings are planned by Cobb Police at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 - one in Kennesaw, the other in Austell.
The Kennesaw meeting will be at Precinct 1, 2380 Cobb Parkway, covering northwest Cobb which includes Town Center Mall, Kennesaw and Acworth.
VIPER, or Violent Incident Prevention Early Response, will be discussed by Lt. Thomas Elledge, commander of this unit.
He will discuss street crime and provide helpful information, tips and instructions on how to recognize and report crimes, new crime trends in the area and suspicious activity.
The VIPER unit mission is "to reduce the occurrences of street-level violent crimes" by providing "directed patrols in high crime areas, high risk warrant service and covert surveillance of entities likely to be victims of violent crimes," according to the Cobb Police description.
Covering southwest Cobb, including Austell and Powder Springs, the Precinct 2 meeting will be in the meeting room, South Cobb Government Center, 4700 Austell Road, Austell.
Residents are invited to discuss their crime concerns.
The discussion will be moderated by Zone 2 Precinct Commander Capt. Jeff Adcock and Precinct 2 Criminal Investigations Unit Commander Lt. Carole King.
These meetings are sponsored by the Police Email Notification System, or PENS, which is maintained by Cobb Police to enhance communication between its five precincts and the communities they serve.
Through these quarterly meetings and monthly email newsletters, residents may stay informed of crime trends in the area and tips on measures to keep them and their family safe.
