A Cobb County man is accused of stealing $37,000 worth of rare coins from a northwest Georgia shop, police said Thursday. And he’s accused of similar thefts in six other jurisdictions.

London Harris, 37, of Smyrna, has been charged with felony theft for a November theft from a Dalton coin shop, according to police.

On Nov. 17, Harris went into the Dalton Stamp and Coin shop and asked the owner about several coins, according to Bruce Frazier, spokesman for Dalton police. The store owner showed Harris between 70 and 80 coins before Harris distracted him and concealed a box of coins under his jacket, Frazier said. Harris then allegedly left the store, claiming he needed to get his credit card to make a purchase.

A week later, surveillance images of similar thefts in Fort Oglethorpe, in Catoosa County, were released by police. The images depicted a man matching Harris’ description.

On Dec. 26, Harris was arrested at Northlake Mall after a store owner recognized him from a previous theft and called police. Harris was booked into the DeKalb County jail. On Tuesday, Harris was arrested by Dalton police and booked into the Whitfield County jail, Frazier said.

Harris is suspected of thefts in at least six jurisdictions in Georgia and has a warrant for his arrest in Ohio, where he lived before moving to Georgia, according to investigators.
