Gwinnett County firefighters knocked down a raging fire at a strip mall in Peachtree Corners that shut down the intersection at Holcomb Bridge Road and Spaulding Drive for several hours Friday night.
Gwinnett County Fire spokesman Jarrod Barrett said firefighters worked quickly to get the fire under control to prevent it from spreading to a gas station nearby and other businesses.
No injuries were reported, although workers at one business had to be evacuated. A pet grooming business also caught fire, although no animals were reported to be inside the shop.
According to an overnight bulletin, Barrett said witnesses initially saw flames coming from the roof of the structure at about 9:10 p.m.
Firefighters arrived about four minutes later and were greeted with heavy fire and smoke when they arrived on the scene. The fire was so large that crews used three aerial ladder trucks to knock down the bulk of the flames from above.
Although the fire is believed to have started on the roof, the actual cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
