Atlanta fire officials are trying to determine what sparked a predawn blaze Wednesday that destroyed a garage apartment.
The fire broke out before 6:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of Conrad Avenue, off Lakewood Avenue in southeast Atlanta.
Atlanta fire Battalion Chief Stephen Hill said responding firefighters found an apartment above a garage fully involved in flames.
“When we arrived, flames were about 50 feet in the air,” Hill said. “It was too far off the road to use our aerial [truck], so we were able to get some hand lines around the structure and knock down the fire.”
Hill said the apartment appeared to be abandoned, and no injuries were reported.
