Two people escaped serious injury Thursday morning when a car they were in ran off a DeKalb County roadway, crashing through a privacy fence and into the back of a house, authorities said.
The incident happened around daybreak on DeKalb Medical Parkway near Covington Highway.
DeKalb fire Capt. Eric Jackson said an adult and child were inside the vehicle. The adult refused treatment, and the child was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, he said.
“The injuries were considered minor and non-life threatening,” Jackson said.
“I was asleep upstairs in a rear bedroom and I heard a bang and when I came downstairs to investigate, I saw a car in the living room,” homeowner Osmond Roberts told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Roberts said it isn’t unusual for cars to run off the nearby road.
“Cars run into the back of these yards all the time,” Roberts said. “The house next door, it has a new fence because a car just recently ended in the backyard. They need a guardrail to prevent the cars from coming through the fence. They’re always coming through the fence.”
Thomas Graves of Statewide Wrecker Service was called to the scene to extract the car from the house.
“I wasn’t expecting it to be up in the house,” said Graves, who thought he would be towing a car from behind the house. “This one here is the best one yet.”
