A Canton man who allegedly fired several shots at his father before shooting himself during a five-hour standoff with sheriff’s deputies has died, authorities said.

Cherokee County sheriff’s Lt. Howard Baker said deputies were initially sent to a home on Trinity Hollow Drive in the Macedonia community around 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

Paul Limerick, 31, “reportedly shot multiple times at his father inside the home,” Baker said.

“The father was able to flee the home unharmed,” Baker said. “The suspect refused to leave the home.”

Baker said a SWAT team and negotiators were called to the scene, and after about five hours of negotiations, Limerick shot himself in the head. He later died at North Fulton Hospital.
