The dog days of summer may be coming to an end, but Brookhaven plans to end the season by allowing pets and their owners to take one more dip in the pool.

The city is holding its annual “Doggy Dip Day” event on Saturday and Sunday to cap off swim season at its public pools. Owners and their pooches are allowed to swim together at Murphey Candler Park from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to a news release.

Each dog can only be joined by two humans to ensure each pooch and pup has plenty of space to paddle around the pool, located at 1551 W. Nancy Creek Drive. Dog owners will be allowed to wade into the pool up to their knees, and lifeguards will be present.

Participants are required to register online in advance. It costs $15 per dog to reserve a three-hour time slot. Residents can go to the pool both days, but they’ll have to register and pay $15 each day. All dogs must be up-to-date on their required shots and vaccinations, the city said.

The city is setting aside different time slots for small and large dogs. The pool is reserved for small dogs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, while large dogs and can take a dip from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Those time frames flip Sunday, meaning large dogs get the late morning hours, while small dogs can swim in the afternoon.
