2 reportedly test positive at Augusta University Health System

Hospitals set up triage tents before Coronavirus outbreak worsens

An employee of the Augusta University Health System and a spouse have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to reports by FOX54 WFXG, citing a news release.

The test results are awaiting confirmation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, WFXG reported.

“The safety of our patients and employees is our top priority,” said AU Health CEO Katrina Keefer. “We’ve been preparing for months and are working quickly to identify anyone who may have come in contact with these individuals to determine their risk and limit further exposure.”

Keefer said the risk to patients and visitors at University Hospital remains low, the report said.

She cited steps taken to limit any exposure to the virus, such as restricting visitation and closing some entrances to the hospital and screening people upon entry, WFXG reported.

Keefer said anyone who is sick or showing symptoms of COVID-19 should use the health system’s new remote screening tool, available for free on the website and as a mobile app for Apple and Android, or to call the health system COVID-19 hotline at 706-721-1852.

As of noon Monday, the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Georgia stood at 121, according to Fox 5 Atlanta, citing the Georgia Department of Public Health.
