A woman was killed Sunday morning when she was thrown from a car during a wreck in Hall County, officials said.

Grechelle Enid Cuevas Lopez, 20, of Gainesville, was declared dead at the scene of the crash, which happened about 12:45 a.m. on Thompson Bridge Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

Lopez and the driver, also 20, were the only people in the 2009 Toyota Corolla, agency spokesman Derreck Booth said.

The driver was heading northbound on Thompson Bridge Road when he lost control of the car, according to Booth. The vehicle spun and vaulted off the roadway, he said.

The car then slid down an embankment, hitting several trees along the way.

The driver was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Booth said.

An investigation is ongoing.
