Investigators found two additional victims Wednesday while sifting through the debris from an East Point house fire, bringing the total to three killed in the blaze.
None of the victims, including a woman and two men, had been identified Wednesday afternoon, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The ranch-style Hogan Road home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived shortly after midnight Tuesday, according to the East Point fire department. Flames were too intense for firefighters to go inside, forcing crews to battle the flames from outside, Renita Shelton said.
Two people, a man and woman whose names were not released, were able to escape from the burning home through different windows, interim fire Chief William Ware said. The two survivors told firefighters they believed three others remained inside the home.
An excavating machine was brought to the scene Tuesday to help investigators sift through the charred rubble. Late Tuesday morning, a woman’s body was found, Ware said. Because the roof had partially collapsed to the first floor, and the first floor collapsed into the home’s basement, it was unclear where the woman was in the home at the time of the fire.
On Wednesday, search dogs were assisting with the search for the additional two victims, according to Shelton, spokeswoman for the fire department. The body of a man was located late Wednesday morning, and the second man’s body was located a few hours later.
Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire at the home, which did not have working electricity, Shelton said.
