Two women were kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a gunman at an East Point townhome complex late Tuesday — the same complex where a high school teacher was assaulted days earlier. Investigators believe the same man is responsible for all three robberies and assaults, and hope a composite sketch helps identify him, East Point police said.
“The man’s description and his MO appear to be the same,” Capt. Cliff Chandler told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
In the most recent cases, police say the two women, ages 28 and 30, were returning home together around 10 p.m. when a gunman approached them in the parking lot of the complex, off Washington Road. The man then got into the back seat of the women’s vehicle and forced them to drive to an ATM along Camp Creek Parkway, according to police.
The gunman then made the women drive back to the complex, where the man raped both women, police said. A surveillance camera captured images of the suspect, which investigators hope will help identify him, Chandler said.
The latest assaults happened five days after a Creekside High School teacher was carjacked, pistol-whipped, sexually assaulted and forced to go to an ATM in south Fulton County early Friday, according to police. The teacher was able to jump from a moving car and run to safety.
On Wednesday, officers carried a flyer with the suspects’ pictures door to door, letting area residents know about the crimes and seeking information about the man believed responsible, Chandler said.
“We are canvassing the entire area where this complex is at,” Chandler said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation also released a sketch of the suspect Wednesday afternoon.
Police were reminding residents to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to police. Anyone with information on the man is asked to call police at 404-559-6287.
