The Powerball jackpot hit a record $800 million Friday, up $100 million from the previous day.

Whoa.

The biggest lottery jackpot ever offered in the United States will be up for grabs in Saturday’s drawing. That would be approximately $496 million in cash for the winner who wants the prize right away. Otherwise, it would be a nice — make that REALLY nice — paycheck for the next 29 years.

The current jackpot has been rolling since Nov. 7, and has rolled 18 times, Georgia lottery officials said.

No one won the whole pot in Wednesday night’s drawing. But 7,124,983 players won some type of prize, according to lottery officials.

Just don’t get too carried away dreaming of where you’ll spend your winnings. The odds of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 292 million. Still, you can’t win if you don’t play, right?

One person in Georgia won $1 million in Wednesday’s lottery, according to the Georgia lottery’s website. That winning ticket was sold in Savannah at a Sandfly convenience store at 7362 Skidaway Road.

Powerball tickets are $2 and can be purchased until 10 p.m. Saturday. The drawing can be seen at 11 p.m. on Channel 2.
