A 28-year-old pedestrian from Marietta died Tuesday, two days after he was hit by a car on Powder Springs Street in Cobb County.

Wilder Esteban Vicente-Vicente “darted across the roadway in front” of a 2008 Infiniti G35 driven by 36-year-old Michael Whited of Marietta, according to Marietta police spokesman Officer Jared Rakestraw. The pedestrian was not in a designated crosswalk, Rakestraw said.

Vicente was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Rakestraw confirmed his death Wednesday.

“Our prayers go out to the friends and family of all involved,” he said.

He added that Whited “remains cooperative and no charges are expected to be filed.”

The investigation revealed that Whited was traveling southbound on Powder Springs Street just south of Chestnut Hill Road when the crash occurred, approximately 230 feet from the crosswalk at that intersection.

“Always use designated crosswalks and ... look both ways before crossing the road,” Rakestraw said.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Rakestraw at 770-794-5357.
