A hostage situation in South Fulton involving a child ended Tuesday with the girl safe, officials said.

A suspect was taken into custody after more than a two-hour standoff with SWAT negotiators, according to South Fulton police. His name has not been released.

The situation happened in the 5500 block of Twin Lakes Drive, according to police spokesman Lt. Derrick Rogers.  Officers were sent to the home just before noon to respond to a domestic dispute between a husband and wife, he said.

While officers were speaking with the wife, the man grabbed the child, ran into the home and barricaded himself inside, Rogers said. Channel 2 Action News reported the child is a 4-year-old girl.

The man hid in an upstairs bedroom with the child, and SWAT and hostage negotiators were called, Rogers said. The man eventually surrendered and freed the child, he said. The man’s charges have not been released.

No one was hurt during the incident, Rogers said.
