Bet on Bernie to win the nomination, bookmaker says

Bernie Sanders is the odds-on favorite to win the Democratic Party’s White House nomination, according to an online sportsbook.

“There is now a clear leader of the pack as Sanders sits at +100, and Michael Bloomberg odds have dropped significantly from +200 to +400,” said Pat Morrow, head oddsmaker at Bovada, an online casino, table gambling, betting and poker website.

Making his national debate debut during the Democratic Las Vegas debate, Bloomberg fell from +1000 to his current standing, Morrow said.

“Our Democratic nomination prop for president has seen more volatility than any political prop in recent memory,” he said. “There are two candidates — Sanders and Bloomberg — who have seen their odds improve over the last couple of weeks.

“On the flip side, candidates like Pete Buttigieg and Elizabeth Warren have seen their odds drift considerably, especially as we approached the debate in Nevada Wednesday night. The race was once again flipped on its head after the poor showing from Bloomberg.”

Buttigieg, the former South Bend, Indiana, mayor, saw his odds improve from +800 to +600. Warren’s odds have improved the most, moving from a +6600 long shot to +2000.

“Looking forward to the Nevada caucus and the South Carolina primary, we expect this trend to continue and big line movement to be made after both these events depending on the performance of each candidate,” Morrow said.
