An Atlanta man who lured and raped women through his work as an auto repairman was convicted Monday and sentenced to eight life sentences, according to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
A jury convicted Gregory Hillman, 50, of rape, aggravated sodomy and false imprisonment for assaulting nine women, DA Paul Howard said. Jury selection began Dec. 1.
Between July 2005 and July 2012, Hillman attacked the woman around Atlanta and south Fulton County, Howard said. The women, ages 28 to 48, told investigators they met Hillman through his job as an auto repairman.
“Hillman used his auto services as a ruse to gain access to women either at their homes or his,” the DA’s office said in an emailed statement Monday afternoon. “The defendant also tried to garner sympathy from some of the victims by telling them he was widowed and needed help with his small children.
“Once inside his home, Hillman asked those victims to watch his wedding video with him,” the DA said. “He then proceeded to sexually assault and hold those women against their will when they tried to get away.”
Hillman was arrested in September 2013. Additional victims came forward after television news reports of Hillman’s arrest, Howard said.
Following the conviction, Superior Court Judge Craig Schwall sentenced Hillman to eight consecutive life terms plus 40 years in prison.
