Metro Atlanta’s run of picture-perfect weekend weather will likely come to a screeching halt Saturday and Sunday, with a good chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms forecast each day.
The rain will have road crews dodging the rain drops as they work on numerous projects around town. Here’s what you need to know to avoid the scheduled lane closures, which are all dependent on the weather:
Focus will again be on Interstates 20 and 285
On I-20, three eastbound lanes will be closed between Langhorn and McDaniel streets all weekend, while two westbound lanes will be closed between the Downtown Connector and Lee Street from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday for bridge joint replacement.
Outside the Perimeter, two westbound lanes of I-20 will be closed all weekend between Fulton Industrial Boulevard and Six Flags Parkway.
On the other side of town in Rockdale County, paving on I-20 will shut down one lane in each direction near Ga. 20. throughout the weekend.
Two southbound lanes of I-285 will be closed at Riverside Drive all weekend for sign structure work. Similar work will also close two northbound lanes of I-285 between Northlake Parkway and Chamblee Tucker Road from 7:30 p.m. Friday through 3 p.m. Saturday.
More sign work will shut down one eastbound lane of I-285 near Old National Highway throughout the weekend.
Two southbound lanes of I-285 will be closed from South Atlanta Road to Bolton Road, and two northbound lanes will be shut down from South Cobb Drive to South Atlanta Road all weekend.
On I-85, one northbound lane will be closed between Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Indian Trail Road from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday.
