Warmer temperatures are on the way, but showers are likely to come with them.

Temps ranging from 16 to 20 degrees will greet folks in metro Atlanta on Saturday morning, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said, with highs expected to reach the low to mid-40s with the help of sunny skies.

The sunshine won’t stick around all weekend, though, as clouds will roll in Sunday and bring some light rain or drizzle in the afternoon or evening. The wet stuff won’t impact the day’s temperatures much, Burns said, as highs will remain in the low 40s.

Sunday’s low will be in the high 20s, but the lows are only expected to dip down to the high 30s and low 40s Monday through Wednesday.

High temperatures will approach or hit the 50s Monday and Tuesday, Burns added, but the rain will be sticking around. Sunday could mark the first of four days of wet weather.

Warmer temperatures likely will be welcomed after the last few very cold mornings. Thursday morning, temperatures as low as 7 felt even colder because of brisk winds that pushed the wind chill to around zero. Winds calmed by early Friday.

Friday’s subfreezing temperatures caused icing problems in a few spots where crews were working to repair broken water mains.

All lanes of Marietta Boulevard were blocked at Chattahoochee Avenue as water from a broken main froze on the roadway.

Crews also worked overnight to repair a broken main on Roswell Road near Piedmont Road in Buckhead.

Atlanta’s normal high for this part of January is 52, the normal low 34.
