The foggy, wet conditions are expected to linger the next two days, according to forecasters. But expect sunshine, and warmer temperatures, to return to metro Atlanta in time for the weekend.

Fog delayed flights and made driving treacherous Monday evening, and Tuesday morning conditions will be similar, according to chief meteorologist Glenn Burns with Channel 2 Action News. A dense fog advisory from the National Weather Service spanning most of Georgia is in place until midnight.

The Tuesday morning commute will likely be messy, including fog and a 30 percent chance of showers, Burns said. High temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday will reach the middle 40s before climbing slightly by Friday, he said.

The chance of rain Wednesday is 20 percent, and the sunshine should begin pushing through the clouds by afternoon, Burns said. By Friday afternoon, temperatures should reach the low to mid-50s with partly cloudy skies, he said. Weekend highs could be in the middle 50s.

Some incoming flights at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport were delayed by about an hour Monday afternoon, and some departing flights were experiencing taxi delays and gate holds of between 16 and 30 minutes, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

With visibility in some areas reduced to a quarter mile or less, forecasters urged commuters to use extreme caution. Officials say drivers should reduce their speed, use their headlights and avoid tailgating.
