An off-duty Atlanta fire captain was shot during a robbery in Buckhead on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Police are looking for the two people who approached Capt. Cecil Level and his fiancé about 2:15 p.m. on Grandview Avenue.

While the victims were getting out of their car, the two gunmen came up and demanded they hand over their belongings, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty said.

At some point, the men noticed Level’s Atlanta Fire Rescue Department badge, prompting one of them to shoot him in the shoulder area, Daugherty said.

They then took off, one of them in a Ford Explorer and the other on foot. The man who ran away was hit by a car as he left and is possibly injured, police said.

Level, who is assigned to the airport division, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

In other news:

Police are still working to figure out the man's motivation.
