The man accused of killing an elderly couple in their Floyd County home has been arrested, police said late Tuesday.

Emerson Mack Abbott Jr., 27, was charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of James Steven Reeves, 69, and 71-year-old Myra Wilson Reeves, according to police. Abbott was arrested without incident at an undisclosed location, Floyd County police said.

“No further details of the investigation will be released in order to insure the successful prosecution of this case in court,” police said in a press release.

On Jan. 23, the Reeves were found dead in their Terhune Road home. The couple had been shot to death.

Address records show Abbott lived about two miles from the Reeves home, on Watters Road in Taylorsville, across the county line into Bartow.

The GBI assisted with the investigation.
