September 12, 2017 Savannah: The historic Fort Pulaski National Monument is surrounded by flood waters after Hurricane Irma on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, near Savannah on the Georgia coast. The monument preserves Fort Pulaski, where in 1862 during the American Civil War, the Union Army successfully tested rifled cannon in combat, the success of which rendered brick fortifications obsolete.
