Police in Fayetteville have arrested two men and charged them in an early-morning home invasion.

Nicolas Martinez, 25, of Riverdale, and Alex Godines, 25, of Fayetteville, were captured within hours Thursday and accused of multiple crimes, city spokesman Ann Marie Burdett told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police said the two suspects entered a home in the 100 block of Buckeye Lane at about 5:15 a.m. with another man, who was tied up and appeared to have sustained injuries. The initial investigation revealed that the alleged intruders were looking for drugs in the residence, officials confirmed.

The residents of the home were assaulted during the altercation and sustained minor injuries, authorities said in a news release.

Investigators said the suspects eventually left the residence, while the man who was tied up ran out a different door.

The residents, who called police after the suspects left, were treated by medics on the scene. Investigators said they had not been involved in any previous narcotics or criminal activity and did not know the suspects or kidnapped man, according to police.

Officers then made contact with the residents at the home next door after learning that the bound man went to that location, police said. He was found hiding behind a vehicle in the garage.

Investigators determined that the man had been kidnapped in Clayton Country earlier in the morning and had been taken to that area by the suspects, according to the release.

Police are still working to determine the relationship between the man and the neighbor’s home but said “suspected narcotics and evidence of narcotics trafficking were found inside of this residence.”

Martinez was charged with two counts each of home invasion, burglary, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, second-degree criminal damage to property and kidnapping. Godines was charged with violations of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act and obstruction of law enforcement. They were both booked into the Fayette County Jail.
