With COVID restrictions limiting in-person events, the Georgia Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is hosting virtual events to communicate with its audiences. This week there will be two Facebook events to raise awareness of suicide and connect with those who have lost a loved one, according to a press release.

A virtual candlelight vigil will be held 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9 with speakers, information on the crisis line and tips for self care. The event will end with reflective time and a candle lighting service. The vigil will be streamed live on the AFSP Georgia Chapter’s Facebook page at facebook.com/afspGeorgia.

The National American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s World Suicide Prevention Day is September 10. From Noon to 8 p.m. the organization will have panel discussions, speakers and advocates presenting on topics including self care, mental health and suicide prevention. That event also will be streamed on the AFSP - Georgia chapter’s Facebook page at facebook.com/afspGeorgia.
