A woman was killed Monday morning in a crash on a busy South Fulton road that also injured three others, including two children, officials said.

The two-vehicle wreck happened shortly before 8 a.m. on Jonesboro Road between Bethsaida Road and Old National Highway, a stretch of highway that is known for speeding, according to South Fulton fire Lt. Eric Jackson. Investigators working the scene were pulled away twice to respond to two other wrecks in the same area.

According to Jackson, the woman killed was the only occupant of a crumpled gray Honda sedan. Her name was not released. The other three injured in that wreck were riding in a pickup truck that flipped on impact.

The man driving the pickup was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, and one child was taken to Children’s Egleston Hospital. The other child was taken to a hospital by a family member.

“Those three that were injured are stable,” Jackson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution from the scene. “I’m happy to report that they are not serious, but they were transported ... just to make sure they were OK.”

While the crash remains under investigation, Jackson said it appears one vehicle veered to the side of the other before coming into contact in the center of the road. Crash reconstruction specialists with South Fulton police were working to determine any contributing factors, including speed.

“It’s no secret that Ga. 138, especially between Old National Highway and Bethsaida Road, has been a thoroughfare and a magnet for people wanting to exceed the speed limit,” Jackson said. “The city of South Fulton has gone through great lengths in working with the Georgia Department of Transportation to get a signal light installed ... at the intersection.”

Jackson’s remarks were interrupted Monday when two more vehicles crashed on Jonesboro Road just outside the investigation scene. Another multicar pileup, which involved at least three vehicles, happened a half-mile away, according to a wrecker service at that scene.

It was not clear if anyone was injured in those wrecks.
