The Roswell City Council recently approved a proposal to paint a city-owned junction box with a public mural.

According to city documents, local Atlanta artist, Christina Kwan, will paint one of the city’s standard silver junction boxes “with something bright and pretty to compliment other art throughout downtown.”

This project will be fully funded and managed by Ryan Pernice. No city funds will be needed. Pernice will take on the planning, prepping, painting, maintenance and repainting for this initial temporary period.

Two potential sites have been suggested, one at the northeast corner of Canton Street and Woodstock Road or the northeast corner of Fraser Street and Norcross Street.

The art will have a recurring inspection every six months to determine the quality of the finish. At that point, options include repainting the box to its original condition, leaving the painting alone, or commissioning a new work to be approved by the city.
