Milton will devote the month of September on mental wellness, recognizing those struggling with depression, anxiety and related conditions while sharing ways to wellness. LRJ Foundation, Mental Health & Wellness Education, a non-profit dedicated to promoting mental health with operations in Georgia and Pennsylvania, will partner with Milton for the third year on this outreach and educational effort.
Emphasizing “Mental Wellness Matters,” Milton and LRJ will explore a new theme each week throughout the month. Unlike past years, there will not be a main event but rather a program of posts on the city’s social media channels, online videos, and website updates.
Topics include:
• stress, anxiety and other issues facing students, and how parents can help,
• mental health challenges of first responders, and how Milton tries to help local police and firefighters,
• mental health problems in the workplace, with suggestions for how to assess and handle,
• social isolation and loneliness among older people, issues exacerbated by the pandemic,
• members of the military who may be at higher risk, along with resources available to help.
This campaign overlaps with National Suicide Prevention Week Sept. 5-11 and World Suicide Prevention Day on Sept. 10.
